Taking Action
One thing that Bob Proctor said of the wheelchair project was, “Geoff doesn’t know HOW he’ll do it, he just knows he will” There’s so much truth in that statement.
In fact, when I learnt about the Internet Seminar I couldn’t afford to go so I approached my friend and he paid and I went as his guest. I printed a few appeal leaflets and gave them out during the coffee breaks. This is how Andrew found one and the result as you can see, enabled me to get things started and buy four wheelchairs for people in Olongapo in the Philippines.
It was a beginning and next I needed someone to handle the website for me as I am not really trained in that. I found Gary Vine and he offerred to put together the site as you see it now and be my webmaster. My thanks to him for such a great job.
Supporting Children
Disability comes in many different forms Personally I was 28 before I experienced it. Before then I can say I was vaguely aware of it but it was not at the top of my priorities. It is when it effects you personally that you start to appreciate other’s suffering also.
I still cannot imagine how it must feel for a child born with a disability such as Cerebral Palsy or Cystic Phybrosis. Throughout life they struggle daily with the results and any help given to them in their early years is so important. I admire the strength of character of parents who face a daily battle to provide the love and support their children need. On Saturday I met a dear woman who had a 17 year old Autistic girl by her side. The girl cannot talk or communicate at all and cannot even do the most basic daily hygiene. Her mind seems to be a blank and the mother has a constant work in looking after her. Not only that, she has a 14 year old boy also Autistic and though not as bad as his sister needs constant help as well She told me that there had been times of despair but now she was in a supportive church that assists her and she is feeling much better.
Geoff at 67 Years Old
It’s May 5th 2011 and I’m 67 today. Wow! How the years fly by! An annual event such as this is a very personal reminder and a reason for looking back.
The questions that arise are “What has my life been about so far” Have I fulfilled my destiny?” How many people have I been able to help and/or influence?” “Am I contributing more now than ever before?” What plans and goals do I have for the future?”
Of course we should be reviewing these questions every day, but an annual check up is good also.
